Arceus (Japanese: アルセウス Arceus) is a Normal-type Mythical Pokémon introduced in Generation IV. Arceus is known for its unique ability to change its type through its Multitype Ability when holding a Plate or type-specific Z-Crystal. This Pokémon, also referred to as "The Original One," is believed to have created the Sinnoh and Ransei regions, and possibly the entire Pokémon universe. Arceus was officially revealed by Nintendo on February 14, 2009, and internationally on August 3, 2009.

According to Pokémon lore, Arceus emerged from an egg in a place where there was nothing, and then shaped the world and universe using its 1,000 arms. It is credited with creating the lake guardians (Uxie, Azelf, and Mesprit) and the Pokémon of Myth (Dialga, Palkia, and Giratina), who govern time, space, and antimatter respectively. Arceus's creation myth positions it as one of the most powerful and ancient beings in the Pokémon world.
In the Pokémon world, Arceus plays a pivotal role as a creator and overseer.
