Guzzlord's backstory is linked to the Ultra Ruin, an alternate universe's version of Hau'oli City in the Alola region. In the Pokémon the Series: Sun & Moon episode "Battling the Beast Within!", it was revealed that Guzzlord arrived in the Ultra Ruin through an Ultra Wormhole. Once there, it began devouring everything in sight, turning the area into a barren wasteland. The second face above its maw is identified as its weak point, a crucial detail for those who encounter this destructive creature.

In the Pokémon world, Guzzlord plays a significant role as an Ultra Beast, creatures that are mysterious and powerful beings from other dimensions.
