Eternatus

Eternatus (Japanese: ムゲンダイナ Mugendina) is a dual-type Poison/Dragon Legendary Pokémon introduced in Generation VIII. It is not known to evolve into or from any other Pokémon. Players encounter a powered-up form known as Eternamax Eternatus during the climax of Pokémon Sword and Shield. This form can also be seen briefly when it uses its signature move, Eternabeam, but it cannot be acquired legitimately in-game. Eternatus is associated with the legendary heroes and is responsible for the event known as the Darkest Day.

Eternatus's backstory reveals that it is an extraterrestrial Pokémon that arrived in the Pokémon world inside an asteroid approximately 20,000 years ago. This asteroid, referred to as a Wishing Star, landed in the Crown Tundra, creating the Max Lair cavern. Eternatus was defeated 3,000 years ago by Zacian, Zamazenta, and two young humans, which led to its power leaking out in the form of Galar particles, causing the Dynamax phenomenon. This defeat weakened Eternatus, requiring it to reabsorb Galar particles to remain active.

In the Pokémon world, Eternatus plays a significant role in the events of Pokémon Sword and Shield. It serves as the source of the Dynamax phenomenon in the Galar region, with its power causing Pokémon to Dynamax and sometimes rampage uncontrollably. This event, known as the Darkest Day, reoccurs when Eternatus reawakens. Eternatus's energy core can absorb sync stone energy in Pokémon Masters EX, replacing Galar particles. Its presence can prevent other Pokémon from Dynamaxing and can even revert Dynamaxed or Gigantamaxed Pokémon.

Eternatus is a gigantic, draconic alien Pokémon with a skeletal appearance, predominantly dark violet with red highlights. Its body resembles a spinal column, with a torso formed from rib-like appendages encasing a glowing pink core that serves as its energy source. It has a triangular head with eye-like markings and a spindly lower jaw with diamond-shaped teeth. Eternatus's ability to absorb energy allows it to fire massive energy blasts and cause the Darkest Day phenomenon. In its Eternamax form, it becomes the tallest known Pokémon, dwarfing even Gigantamax Pokémon, and gains immense power, capable of creating great storms of Dynamax energy.
