Hydrapple's backstory is rich with mythological inspirations. It is composed of seven symbiotic creatures known as "syrpents," living within an apple-shaped structure made entirely of red syrup. These syrpents are reminiscent of the multiheaded serpent monsters from various mythologies, such as the Yamata no Orochi from Japanese folklore and the Lernaean Hydra from Greek mythology. The character's design also integrates elements of traditional worm-in-apple imagery, enhancing its connection to its pre-evolved form, Applin.

In the Pokémon world, Hydrapple plays a unique role due to its complex structure and behavior. Unlike other Pokémon, the seven syrpents rarely work in harmony, which makes Hydrapple's power highly variable. When their moods align, Hydrapple can unleash its full potential, showcasing a dramatic increase in its combat capabilities. It is the only Pokémon known to learn the move Fickle Beam, which reflects this inconsistency by doubling in power when the syrpents are synchronized. Additionally, both Hydrapple and its pre-evolution, Dipplin, are exclusive in their ability to learn Syrup Bomb and possess the Supersweet Syrup Ability.

Hydrapple is characterized by its distinctive physical traits and abilities. The Pokémon features three visible syrpents, with the dominant central syrpent distinguished by its length and two horns, one of which is adorned with an apple. The remaining four syrpents typically remain hidden within the syrup, emerging occasionally. This composition gives Hydrapple a unique appearance and movement, with the tail syrpents propelling it forward. The syrpents' temperamental nature adds an element of unpredictability to Hydrapple's interactions and battles, making it a fascinating and formidable Pokémon in the world of Pokémon.
