Lycanroc (Japanese: ルガルガン Lugarugan) is a Rock-type Pokémon introduced in Generation VII of the Pokémon series. It evolves from Rockruff starting at level 25. Depending on the time of day and Rockruff's Ability, it can evolve into one of three forms: Midday Form, Midnight Form, or Dusk Form. These forms exhibit distinct appearances and characteristics, making Lycanroc a unique and versatile Pokémon within the series.

Lycanroc's backstory revolves around its evolution from Rockruff, a small Rock-type Pokémon known for its playful and loyal nature. Rockruff evolves into Midday Form Lycanroc during the day if it has the Abilities Keen Eye, Vital Spirit, or Steadfast. At night, these same abilities allow Rockruff to evolve into Midnight Form Lycanroc. However, Rockruff with the Ability Own Tempo evolves into Dusk Form Lycanroc when leveled up during the evening. This evolutionary process highlights the influence of time and specific abilities on Lycanroc's development, reflecting the diverse environments and conditions within the Pokémon world.
In the Pokémon world, Lycanroc serves various roles depending on its form. The Midday Form is known for its calm and collected demeanor, often acting as a protector of fields and crops, using its speed and agility to ward off threats. The Dusk Form, combining features of the other two forms, has an orange-gold fur color with bright green eyes that can turn red during attacks.
