Castform was artificially created to study and predict weather patterns. Its cellular structure mimics that of water molecules, allowing it to undergo chemical changes in response to atmospheric conditions. Despite its man-made origins, Castform can be found in natural grassland environments. Researchers attempted to induce its form changes in controlled settings but were unsuccessful. In Generation III, Castform was notable for its signature move, Weather Ball, which changes type depending on the weather.

In the Pokémon world, Castform plays a unique role due to its weather-dependent transformations. This ability makes it a versatile Pokémon in battles, as it can adapt its type and moves to counter various opponents. Castform’s presence in the games emphasizes the strategic importance of weather in battles, adding a layer of complexity and unpredictability. Its ability, Forecast, is exclusive to Castform and is central to its form-changing nature.

Castform has three alternate forms: Sunny Form, Rainy Form, and Snowy Form. In harsh sunlight, it changes to Sunny Form, becoming a Fire-type with an appearance resembling the sun. During rain, it shifts to Rainy Form, turning into a Water-type with a raindrop-like head. Under hail conditions, Castform adopts its Snowy Form, becoming an Ice-type and taking on the appearance of a cumulonimbus cloud. Regardless of its form, Castform always retains a large, spherical head with distinctive mask-like markings over its eyes. This adaptability makes Castform a unique and dynamic Pokémon in the series.
