Girafarig's backstory is intertwined with its distinctive appearance and origins. The design of Girafarig was influenced by the okapi and the giraffe, as well as mythological creatures like the Chimera and the kirin. Its palindromic name reflects its symmetrical design, with the front half resembling a giraffe and the rear half featuring a second head that mirrors the primary one. Originally, Girafarig was conceptualized to have a full-sized second head and was intended to be a Dark/Normal-type Pokémon with a pre-evolution named "Tsuinzu."

In the Pokémon world, Girafarig plays a unique role due to its dual Normal/Psychic typing and its ability to evolve into Farigiraf. It is found in savannas and grasslands, where it uses its psychic abilities and keen senses to thrive.
