Metang's backstory reveals that it is formed when two Beldum fuse together. This fusion results in a single Pokémon with a magnetic nervous system that joins the brains of the two Beldum. Despite this connection, Metang's intellect does not increase compared to its pre-evolution. Instead, this unique linkage amplifies its psychokinetic powers and enhances its magnetic field. The fusion process and its resultant form are documented in the Pokédex, although this fusion has not been depicted in any Pokémon media.

In the Pokémon world, Metang plays a significant role as a formidable opponent due to its enhanced psychic and steel capabilities. It is known to inhabit rough terrains and harsh mountainous regions, often pursuing Nosepass for their magnetic minerals. Metang's ability to hover in midair, coupled with its psychokinetic powers, allows it to traverse these tough environments efficiently. It can travel at speeds over 60 mph (100 km/h) by rotating its arms backwards, enabling it to swiftly search for prey.

Metang possesses several notable characteristics and abilities. It has a disc-shaped body with a gray spike resembling a nose in the middle of its face and a pair of red eyes. Its thick arms, ending in three claws, are capable of ripping through steel. Metang’s metallic skin is so resilient that even a jet cannot scratch it. Its high intelligence and strong magnetic field generate significant psychic energy, allowing it to stop prey from escaping with its psychic power before grabbing them with its claws.
