Ogerpon (Japanese: オーガポン Ogerpon) is a Grass-type Legendary Pokémon introduced during Generation IX in the Pokémon series. It was first featured in the game "The Teal Mask," part of "The Hidden Treasure of Area Zero." Ogerpon is unique in that it does not evolve from or into any other Pokémon. Ogerpon's backstory is deeply rooted in the lore of Kitakami, a region inspired by Northeast Japan. Ogerpon, known as "the ogre" in local myths, is described as a playful yet mischievous Pokémon. It often mingles with humans during the Festival of Masks, disguising itself with one of its various masks to blend in. Historically, it has been in conflict with the Loyal Three and their leader Pecharunt, a feud originating from past grievances and battles that are central to Kitakami's legends.
In the Pokémon world, Ogerpon holds significant importance, especially in the game "The Teal Mask," where it is the game mascot. It is integral to the storyline involving the Loyal Three and their leader. The character’s role extends beyond just its mythical presence; it actively engages in battles, showcasing its ability to switch between different elemental types based on the mask it wears. This versatility makes Ogerpon a strategic asset in Pokémon battles, particularly due to its unique ability to Terastallize without the need for a Tera Orb.
Ogerpon's characteristics are distinctive and multifaceted. Ogerpon's abilities vary with each mask: the Teal Mask form is purely Grass-type, the Wellspring Mask form is Grass/Water-type, the Hearthflame Mask form is Grass/Fire-type, and the Cornerstone Mask form is Grass/Rock-type. Each form has its own unique Terastallized state, which further enhances its combat capabilities. Ogerpon is the only Pokémon capable of using the move Ivy Cudgel and has the unique Ability, Embody Aspect, in any of its Terastallized states, making it a formidable and versatile opponent in battles.
