Palafin

Palafin (Japanese: イルカマン Irukaman) is a Water-type Pokémon introduced in Generation IX. It evolves from Finizen when leveled up while connected with another player via the Union Circle, starting at level 38. Palafin is notable for its ability to switch between two distinct forms in battle, known as Zero Form and Hero Form.

Palafin's backstory is deeply rooted in its evolutionary pathway and transformation capabilities. Initially appearing almost identical to its pre-evolved form, Finizen, Palafin undergoes a significant transformation when it hears its allies calling for help. This transformation awakens its ancient genes, allowing it to switch from its Zero Form to Hero Form, a process that it always carries out in secret. The evolutionary process, facilitated by the Union Circle, adds a unique multiplayer element to its development.

In the Pokémon world, Palafin plays a crucial role as both a protector and a powerful combatant. Known as the "Pelagic Protector" and the "Hero of the Ocean," Palafin uses its Hero Form to save drowning people and Pokémon. Its transformation not only boosts its physical capabilities but also allows it to perform heroic feats such as lifting cruise ships and swimming at speeds of 50 knots. This duality underscores its importance in the Pokémon ecosystem, balancing its ordinary appearance with extraordinary abilities.

Palafin exhibits distinct characteristics and abilities that set it apart from other Pokémon. In its Zero Form, it resembles a typical dolphin with a light blue body and a heart-shaped mark on its chest. However, its Hero Form features a bulkier, human-like physique with enhanced strength and new abilities. Palafin is the only known Pokémon capable of learning the move Jet Punch and possessing the ability Zero to Hero, which allows it to switch forms in battle. Its Hero Form grants it the highest base Attack stat among all Water-type Pokémon, making it a formidable adversary in combat.
