Pichu

Pichu (Japanese: ピチュー Pichu) is an Electric-type baby Pokémon introduced in Generation II of the Pokémon series. It is categorized as a Tiny Mouse Pokémon and is the pre-evolved form of Pikachu. Pichu evolves into Pikachu when leveled up with high friendship, and Pikachu can further evolve into Raichu when exposed to a Thunder Stone. Pichu has been featured in various Pokémon games, television series, and manga, making it an iconic character within the franchise.

Pichu's backstory is rooted in its role as the pre-evolution of Pikachu, which was designed by Ken Sugimori during the development of Generation II. The concept for Pichu was to create a "baby" version of Pikachu to expand the evolutionary line and add depth to the character's lore. Pichu first appeared in Pokémon Gold and Silver, released in 1999. Over the years, Pichu has been featured in numerous games and media, including alternate forms such as Spiky-eared Pichu and Ukulele Pichu, which have unique appearances and roles in specific titles.

In the Pokémon world, Pichu plays a significant role as a social and playful Pokémon. It is often found in groups and displays behavior such as touching tails with other Pichu to create sparks, which is considered a sign of courage. Pichu is known for its inability to store electricity efficiently, which causes it to discharge when amused, startled, or shocked. This characteristic makes Pichu both endearing and unpredictable. In Pokémon Ranger: Guardian Signs, Ukulele Pichu serves as the player's first Partner Pokémon, highlighting Pichu's importance in various game narratives.

Pichu is a small, ground-dwelling rodent Pokémon with pale yellow fur and distinct black markings on its ears, collar, and tail. Its pink cheek pouches can store small amounts of electricity, and its tiny nose resembles a dot. Pichu is classified as a quadruped but can walk on its hind legs. It is known for its playful and mischievous demeanor and is often depicted in forests, though it can also thrive in urban areas. Pichu's primary ability is generating static electricity, which can be audibly crackling. It can zap an adult human, but this typically surprises Pichu itself due to its lack of control over its electrical discharges. Pichu and its evolved forms are the only known Pokémon capable of learning the move Volt Tackle.
