Rayquaza (Japanese: レックウザ Rayquaza) is a dual-type Dragon/Flying Legendary Pokémon introduced in Generation III of the Pokémon series. As a Legendary Pokémon, it is not known to evolve into or from any other Pokémon. However, Rayquaza can Mega Evolve into Mega Rayquaza if it knows the move Dragon Ascent and is not holding a Z-Crystal. Rayquaza is prominently featured as the game mascot for Pokémon Emerald, where it appears on the box art.

Rayquaza's backstory is deeply intertwined with the lore of the Pokémon world, particularly in the Hoenn region. It is part of the super-ancient trio alongside Kyogre and Groudon. Rayquaza is revered for its role in ending the destructive clash between Kyogre and Groudon, which was instigated by the leaders of Team Magma and Team Aqua. In the Delta Episode of Pokémon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire, Rayquaza is summoned to stop a meteor from colliding with the Earth and to confront the extraterrestrial Pokémon Deoxys.

Within the Pokémon world, Rayquaza holds a significant position due to its immense power and its role as a peacekeeper. It is seen as a protector of the Earth, residing in the ozone layer and descending only when necessary to quell conflicts involving its counterparts, Kyogre and Groudon. Rayquaza is worshipped by the Draconid people and is honored at the Sky Pillar in the Hoenn region. Its influence extends to various media, including games, anime, and manga, where it is often depicted as a guardian of the natural order.

Rayquaza's characteristics are distinct and formidable. It is a large, green, serpentine Pokémon with red-tipped wings and yellow ring-like symbols along its body. Rayquaza can manipulate weather and create cyclones, making it a powerful adversary in battles. It can breathe in outer space and feeds on particles in the ozone layer, including meteoroids. Mega Rayquaza, its evolved form, gains additional features and an even more imposing appearance. As Mega Rayquaza, it can undo the primal forms of Groudon and Kyogre and has the unique ability Delta Stream, which nullifies the Flying type's weaknesses. Rayquaza's unique traits and legendary status make it a central figure in the Pokémon series.
