Salazzle

Salazzle (Japanese: エンニュート Ennewt) is a dual-type Poison/Fire Pokémon introduced in Generation VII of the Pokémon series. It evolves from a female Salandit starting at level 33, while male Salandit are not known to evolve into or from any other Pokémon. Salazzle is recognized for its unique typing and distinctive appearance, resembling a dark gray salamander or lizard with a thin, whip-like tail and purple, almond-shaped eyes.

Salazzle’s backstory reveals that it thrives deep within caves, where it maintains a reverse harem of male Salandit. This arrangement is facilitated by the poisonous gas Salazzle emits, which contains sweet-smelling pheromones that attract male Salandit. The males, in turn, serve and provide for the Salazzle, who punishes those that fail to do so with flaming slaps. The competition among female Salazzle for control over male Salandit can be intense, with the dominant female being the one with the most males in her harem.

Within the Pokémon world, Salazzle holds a notable role, particularly in the Alola region. A special Salazzle serves as the Totem Pokémon for the Wela Volcano Park's Island challenge. This Totem Salazzle is distinguished by its golden, flaring aura, derived from Ultra Wormholes and referred to as Z-Power. In battles, Salazzle is known to walk on all fours but can stand on its hind legs during combat or interactions with its trainer. Its portrayal in the Pokémon Trading Card Game also highlights its ability to adhere to surfaces, enabling it to walk on vertical and upside-down surfaces.

Salazzle's characteristics and abilities are unique among Pokémon. It is a female-only species, with no male counterpart capable of evolving. The dark gray coloration of its body is contrasted by a grayish purple underside and dark pink markings that resemble wisps of smoke. Salazzle’s hands and feet have long, thin digits with dark pink palms capable of unleashing flames. Its signature move, Fire Lash, was introduced in Generation IX. Additionally, Salazzle and its pre-evolved form, Salandit, were the only Pokémon known to have the Corrosion ability prior to Generation IX, allowing them to poison even Steel and Poison-type Pokémon.
