Donphan

Donphan (Japanese: ドンファン Donfan) is a Ground-type Pokémon introduced in Generation II of the Pokémon series. It evolves from Phanpy starting at level 25. Donphan was officially revealed in the May 1997 issue of CoroCoro magazine, along with other Pokémon such as Slowking and Ampharos. It is known for its unique ability to curl up into a ball and roll with great force, making it a formidable Pokémon in battles.

Donphan's backstory is tied to its pre-evolution, Phanpy, a playful and friendly Pokémon often found in herds. As Phanpy matures and reaches level 25, it evolves into Donphan, gaining a more robust and powerful form. This evolution is marked by a significant increase in strength and defensive capabilities, allowing Donphan to withstand heavy impacts and deliver powerful rolling attacks. The Paradox Pokémon Great Tusk and Iron Treads are believed to be ancient and future relatives of Donphan, respectively, indicating its deep evolutionary roots.

In the Pokémon world, Donphan plays a vital role in both the natural and competitive spheres. In the wild, Donphan lives in rough, mountainous terrains and travels in herds with a strict ranking system based on the size of their tusks. This social structure helps maintain order and protection within the herd. In battles, Donphan is highly valued for its strong physical attacks and defensive abilities. Its signature move, Rollout, allows it to attack opponents with increasing power as it continues to roll. Additionally, Donphan's tough hide provides excellent defense against many types of attacks, making it a reliable choice for trainers.

Donphan is characterized by its gray, proboscid appearance, with a thick black band resembling a car tire running along its back and trunk. This band not only serves as armor but also enhances its rolling capabilities. Donphan has a pair of white tusks that are smaller in females, and its ears are thin and elongated. It can become enraged and go on unstoppable rampages if provoked, but it is generally calm and collected. Donphan also possesses a keen sense of smell, enabling it to locate valuable gems like amberite. Despite its strong hide, it is vulnerable to rain, which can affect its performance. Overall, Donphan's combination of strength, defensive abilities, and unique rolling attack makes it a notable Pokémon in various contexts.
