Numel

Numel (Japanese: ドンメル Donmel) is a dual-type Fire/Ground Pokémon introduced in Generation III of the Pokémon series. It evolves into Camerupt starting at level 33. Known for its distinctive appearance and abilities, Numel has a notable presence in the Pokémon world, particularly among trainers specializing in Fire-type Pokémon.

Numel's backstory is rooted in its origins as a creature designed to resemble a dromedary camel with a unique volcanic twist. Its hump, which contains magma heated to nearly 2,200°F (1,200°C), is a distinctive feature that defines its fiery nature. Historically, Numel has been depicted as a reliable beast of burden, capable of carrying loads up to 220 lbs (100 kg). Despite its strength, Numel is characterized by its dull wits, often failing to notice when it has been hit in battle or when it is hungry, which can leave it immobilized. Numel is commonly found on volcanic mountains, thriving in the intense heat.

In the Pokémon world, Numel plays a significant role due to its dual Fire/Ground typing, making it a valuable addition to teams looking to balance offensive and defensive capabilities. Its evolution into Camerupt further enhances its combat potential, making it a formidable opponent in battles. Numel's evolutionary line is often noted for its connection to Team Magma Leader Maxie, who utilizes its final evolution, Camerupt, in his quest to expand landmasses. This association with Team Magma highlights Numel's importance within the broader narrative of the Pokémon series.

Numel is characterized by its yellow, quadrupedal form with a volcano-like hump on its back, green at the top and dotted with small green spots. It has a simple, almost sleepy appearance with bangs over its eyes and short, stubby legs. Numel's primary abilities include its capacity to carry heavy loads and its resistance to fiery environments. However, it is notably weakened when wet and is often slow to respond due to its dull senses. In Generation IX, Numel is the only known Pokémon that can have the Simple ability, which doubles the effectiveness of its stat changes, making it a unique and strategically interesting Pokémon in battles.
