Gholdengo (Japanese: サーフゴー Surfugo) is a dual-type Steel/Ghost Pokémon introduced in Generation IX. It evolves from Gimmighoul when the player has 999 Gimmighoul Coins, at which point the coins disappear. Gholdengo is the 1,000th Pokémon in the National Pokédex and is notable for its unique composition of 1,000 Gimmighoul Coins stacked together, giving it a distinct golden appearance.

Gholdengo's backstory is rooted in its pre-evolution, Gimmighoul, a Pokémon that can be found in two forms: Chest Form and Roaming Form. Gimmighoul hoards coins, and once a player collects 999 of these coins, Gimmighoul evolves into Gholdengo. This evolution cannot be canceled with the B button, marking a significant transformation as the coins amalgamate into the new form of Gholdengo. This process highlights the importance of the Gimmighoul Coins in the evolutionary lore of Gholdengo.

In the Pokémon world, Gholdengo plays a unique role due to its abilities and moves. It is the only Pokémon capable of learning the move "Make It Rain," which involves using its coin-based body to unleash a barrage of coins against opponents. Additionally, Gholdengo's ability "Good as Gold" provides it with immunity to status conditions, making it a formidable opponent in battles. Its presence as the 1,000th Pokémon also commemorates the milestone of the Pokémon series reaching over a thousand unique creatures.

Gholdengo is characterized by its bipedal, humanoid form composed entirely of gold coins. Its face features oval eyes and a crooked smile, and it possesses skinny arms with large hands, each hand having three fingers. Its legs are short and stumpy, lacking toes. Notably, it has four dreadlock-like tufts made from coins, and it wears a belt crafted from a Gimmighoul's chest strap, complete with a stylized number 1,000 on the buckle. Gholdengo is sociable and can quickly befriend others. It uses its coin-based body to overwhelm opponents, withstand damage, and create a golden surfboard for movement. Its durability and unique coin-manipulating abilities make it a distinct and memorable Pokémon in the series.
