Cascoon
Cascoon (Japanese: マユルド Mayuld) is a Bug-type Pokémon introduced in Generation III. It is the evolved form of Wurmple, evolving at level 7 with a specific hidden personality value. Cascoon further evolves into Dustox starting at level 10. It is considered a parallel evolution to Silcoon, another possible evolutionary path for Wurmple.
Cascoon’s backstory revolves around its life cycle and habitat. It primarily resides in forests, where it remains hidden underneath large leaves or within the gaps of tree branches. Cascoon camouflages itself by attaching dead leaves to its body. This cocoon-like Pokémon endures the transition from Wurmple to Dustox, staying immobile and withstanding attacks. Interestingly, Cascoon remembers the pain it endures during this stage and seeks revenge once it evolves.
In the Pokémon world, Cascoon plays the role of a transitional stage Pokémon, providing a strategic pause between Wurmple and Dustox. During this stage, it gains defense capabilities, allowing it to endure attacks that it might face in its environment. Trainers often encounter Cascoon in forested areas and must be patient as it undergoes its metamorphosis. Cascoon’s presence in various games and media highlights the importance of patience and evolution in the Pokémon universe.
Cascoon is characterized by its round, cocoon-like appearance, covered in purple silk except for two holes revealing its red eyes. The silk is soft initially but hardens into a tough cocoon, offering protection. Notably, Cascoon's silk is thin yet strong, with a superior luster and texture compared to its counterpart, Silcoon. This silk is highly valued for making high-quality clothing. Despite its stationary nature, Cascoon generates heat inside its cocoon as it prepares for evolution, and cracks begin to form in its casing when evolution is near. Its defense does not decrease upon evolving, making it unique among cocoon-based Bug-type Pokémon.
