Marowak's backstory is deeply connected to its pre-evolution, Cubone. Upon evolving, Marowak overcomes the grief of losing its mother, which Cubone is known to mourn. This transformation marks a significant change in Marowak’s demeanor, shifting from sorrow to ferocity. Marowak is driven by a desire for vengeance, particularly against Mandibuzz, a natural predator that preys on Cubone due to its timid nature.

In the Pokémon world, Marowak plays a notable role, especially in the Alola region where it serves as the Totem Pokémon for the Wela Volcano Park's Island challenge. This Alolan Marowak is imbued with a special energy from Ultra Wormholes, known as Z-Power, which manifests as a golden, flaring aura. Marowak's unique form and abilities in Alola make it a significant figure within the local Pokémon lore and a formidable opponent in battles.

Marowak is characterized by its sturdy, bipedal form and the bone it wields as a weapon. The skull it wears on its head is a permanent part of its body, symbolizing its evolution and growth. Known for its aggressive combat style, Marowak uses its bone club with precision and power, capable of executing moves such as Bone Club and Bonemerang. In its Alolan form, Marowak gains additional abilities, utilizing ghostly flames and performing ritualistic dances that reflect its deep connection to its environment and companions. The combination of its physical prowess and unique regional abilities makes Marowak a versatile and resilient Pokémon.
