Misdreavus

Misdreavus (Japanese: ムウマ Muma) is a Ghost-type Pokémon introduced in Generation II of the Pokémon series. This spectral Pokémon evolves into Mismagius when exposed to a Dusk Stone. In addition, the Paradox Pokémon Flutter Mane is said to be an ancient relative of Misdreavus, further expanding its lore within the Pokémon universe.

Misdreavus's backstory is rooted in its ghostly nature and nocturnal habits. It resides in dark caves, sleeping during the day and becoming active at night to frighten people with its mischievous behavior. This behavior includes yanking and biting at people's hair, sneaking up on them, and emitting eerie cries and shrieks reminiscent of a child. These antics are driven by its love for watching frightened people, feeding on the fear it induces.

In the Pokémon world, Misdreavus plays a significant role as a unique Ghost-type Pokémon. It was the first pure Ghost-type introduced and remains a distinct character in the series. In the side series games, when Misdreavus is defeated, its body disappears, leaving only the red gems around its neck behind, suggesting it retreats into these gems when weakened. Its encounters with Legendary Pokémon, such as Raikou and Entei, in the anime further highlight its notable presence in the franchise.

Misdreavus is characterized by its dark bluish-green, ghost-like appearance, with a lower half resembling a ruffled dress. It has five round red gems around its neck, which it uses to absorb and feed on fear. Its long, flowing lilac-tipped "hair" and large red eyes with yellow sclerae add to its eerie look. In the anime, it is shown to use its "hair" to grasp objects and other Pokémon. Misdreavus's abilities include Pain Split and Psywave, with the latter being its signature move in Generation II. Its evolution into Mismagius and its connection to mythological creatures like the nukekubi and banshee enrich its intriguing background.
